ImEx

IMEX is an acronym used in several contexts. Two uses are particularly prominent: the IMEX Group, a privately held events company that organizes international trade shows for the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry; and IMEX, the shorthand for implicit-explicit time integration methods used in numerical analysis to solve time-dependent differential equations.

IMEX Group runs major trade shows that convene buyers and suppliers from around the world, most notably IMEX in Frankfurt, Germany, and IMEX America in Las Vegas, United States. The organization focuses on connecting corporate buyers, event planners, venues, and suppliers in the incentive travel, meetings, and events sector.

IMEX schemes in numerical analysis combine implicit and explicit treatment of different terms within a single time-stepping method. They provide stability for stiff components while avoiding the full cost of a completely implicit scheme. IMEX Runge-Kutta and IMEX multistep methods are common examples, used in computational fluid dynamics, weather modeling, and chemical kinetics.

Other uses of IMEX include various corporate names and product lines that adopt the acronym. Context typically determines which meaning is intended.
