IlúvatarElves, sometimes referred to as the Children of Ilúvatar, are a sentient race featured in J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium. They are the elder children of Ilúvatar, the supreme deity of Tolkien's creation myth. Elves are depicted as immortal beings, possessing a deep connection to nature and a profound capacity for artistry, song, and craft. Their existence spans immense periods, witnessing the shaping of Arda (the world) and the rise and fall of civilizations.

The Elves are divided into various kindreds, most notably the Vanyar, Noldor, and Teleri, who embarked on the Great Journey from Cuiviénen towards Aman, the Undying Lands. While many reached Aman, some remained in Middle-earth, leading to the divergence of their cultures and destinies. Elves are characterized by their keen senses, agility, and often their striking beauty. They possess a strong sense of history and memory, carrying the weight of ages. Their relationship with the other races, particularly Men, is complex, marked by both alliance and occasional conflict. The Elves play a significant role in the history of Middle-earth, from the First Age to the Fourth Age, often acting as guardians against the forces of darkness. Their eventual departure from Middle-earth signifies a major shift in the world's narrative.
