Ilagan

Ilagan is a city in the Philippines that serves as the provincial capital of Isabela in the Cagayan Valley region (Region II). It is located in the central part of Isabela, along the western bank of the Cagayan River, forming part of the province’s urban and agricultural heartland.

History and status: Ilagan began as a municipality during Spanish colonial times and remained the provincial center as the province grew. In 2012, Ilagan was converted into a city under Republic Act No. 10169 and subsequently ratified by a plebiscite, becoming the City of Ilagan.

Economy: The local economy is dominated by agriculture, with rice, corn, vegetables, and fruit crops produced in the surrounding plains. The city also functions as a commercial hub, supporting farming communities and providing market and service facilities for the region.
