Ijstroomen is a Dutch term that translates to "ice flows" or "ice streams." It refers to distinct, fast-moving corridors of ice within a larger ice sheet or ice cap. These ice streams are characterized by their significantly higher velocity compared to the surrounding ice, often discharging a large portion of the ice sheet's mass into the ocean. They are a critical component of ice sheet dynamics and play a crucial role in global sea-level rise.

The formation and behavior of ijstroomen are influenced by various factors, including the underlying topography of the bedrock, the presence of water or sediment at the ice-bed interface, and the thermal conditions of the ice.
