Ihonärritus

Ihonärritus, also known as skin irritation, refers to an inflammatory reaction of the skin that can be caused by a variety of external factors. It is a common condition characterized by redness, itching, burning, and sometimes swelling. The severity of ihonärritus can range from mild discomfort to a more pronounced and persistent rash.

Common causes of ihonärritus include contact with irritants or allergens. Irritants are substances that directly damage the skin's protective barrier, leading to inflammation. Examples include harsh soaps, detergents, certain chemicals, and even prolonged exposure to water. Allergens, on the other hand, trigger an immune system response in susceptible individuals, resulting in an allergic contact dermatitis. This can be due to ingredients found in cosmetics, perfumes, jewelry, or certain plants like poison ivy.

Other factors contributing to ihonärritus can include friction from clothing or repetitive movements, excessive heat or cold, and certain medical conditions affecting the skin. The diagnosis of ihonärritus typically involves a physical examination of the affected skin and a discussion about the patient's exposure history. Treatment aims to remove the offending agent, soothe the inflammation, and prevent recurrence. This may involve avoiding irritants, using barrier creams, applying topical corticosteroids, or taking antihistamines for itching. In cases of allergic contact dermatitis, patch testing may be performed to identify specific allergens.
