IgEtesztek, often referred to as IgE tests, are a type of blood test used to detect and measure the amount of immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in a person's blood. Immunoglobulin E is a class of antibodies produced by the immune system that plays a crucial role in allergic reactions. Elevated levels of IgE are commonly associated with allergic conditions.

The primary purpose of IgE testing is to help diagnose allergies. When a person is exposed to an allergen, such as pollen, dust mites, or certain foods, their immune system may produce IgE antibodies specific to that allergen. These IgE antibodies then bind to mast cells and basophils. Upon subsequent exposure to the same allergen, these antibodies trigger the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators, leading to allergic symptoms like sneezing, itching, hives, or difficulty breathing.

IgE tests can be broadly categorized into total IgE tests and specific IgE tests. A total IgE test measures the overall level of IgE in the blood, which can indicate a general predisposition to allergies or parasitic infections. A specific IgE test, also known as a radioallergosorbent test (RAST) or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), measures the amount of IgE antibodies specific to individual allergens. This allows healthcare professionals to identify the particular substances to which a patient is allergic.

The results of IgE tests, when interpreted in conjunction with a patient's medical history and symptoms, aid in the diagnosis and management of allergic diseases.
