IgEszint
IgEszint refers to the level of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the blood. IgE is an antibody produced by the immune system that plays a crucial role in allergic reactions. It is found in small amounts in the blood of healthy individuals. Elevated levels of IgE are commonly associated with allergic diseases. These can include conditions such as allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), atopic dermatitis (eczema), and food allergies. IgE antibodies bind to specific allergens, like pollen, dust mites, or certain foods. Upon subsequent exposure to the allergen, these IgE antibodies trigger the release of histamine and other chemicals from mast cells and basophils, leading to allergic symptoms. Measuring IgEszint can be a useful diagnostic tool for identifying or confirming allergic conditions. However, a high IgEszint alone does not definitively diagnose an allergy, and it must be interpreted in conjunction with a patient's medical history and other diagnostic tests, such as skin prick tests or specific IgE blood tests. Total IgE levels can also be elevated in certain parasitic infections, though this is less common in developed countries.
