Idanevusproovi

Idanevusproovi is a term used in Estonian medical language referring to a histopathological sample taken from a nevus (mole) for laboratory examination. The purpose of the procedure is to diagnose or assess a pigmented lesion by microscopic analysis of the tissue, helping to distinguish benign nevi from dysplastic changes or malignant melanoma.

The procedure typically involves a biopsy, which may be excisional (removing the entire lesion) or incisional/punch (removing only a part of the lesion). Local anesthesia is usually administered, and the choice of technique depends on the lesion’s size, location, and clinical suspicion. After removal, the tissue sample is sent to a pathology laboratory where a dermatopathologist examines it under a microscope. Additional tests, such as immunohistochemistry, may be used in selected cases.

Interpretation of the results focuses on the histologic features of the nevus and any atypical or malignant changes. Findings can indicate a benign nevus, a dysplastic or atypical nevus, or melanoma, among other possibilities. The final report guides treatment decisions and follow-up, which may include further surveillance or additional surgical management if malignancy is detected.

Risks associated with idanevusproovi are similar to those of skin biopsy and include localized pain, bleeding, infection, and scarring. Limitations include sampling error, as the biopsy may not capture areas of concern in a heterogeneous lesion. Patients typically receive post-procedure care instructions and a timeline for obtaining pathology results.
