IUPACnimissä refers to the systematic naming conventions established by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) for chemical substances. The term describes the standardized process of assigning unambiguous names that convey information about structure, composition, and stereochemistry, enabling clear international communication in science and education.

IUPAC nomenclature covers organic, inorganic, and organometallic chemistry, and is published in IUPAC recommendations, commonly known as the Blue Book series. While many chemicals have traditional or trivial names, IUPAC names aim to be unique and descriptive, reducing ambiguity in scholarly and regulatory contexts. In practice, names are constructed according to a hierarchy of rules that prioritize functional groups, chain or ring selection, and locants.

In organic naming, a principal carbon skeleton is chosen as the parent, substituents are named and numbered to give the lowest set of locants, and the final name combines substituents, parent, and, when needed, functional-group suffixes. Stereochemical information is included with prefixes or descriptors such as R/S and E/Z. For inorganic compounds, names may indicate oxidation state in parentheses and use ligand and counter-ion terminology, with attention to charge balance and systematic order.
