ISADGstandardin

ISAD(G) standard is a widely accepted set of guidelines for cataloging and accessing archival materials. It was developed by the International Council on Archives (ICA) and was first published in 1997. The standard provides a framework for describing and accessing archival collections and materials, helping to ensure that they are discovered, understood, and made accessible to researchers and the public.

The ISAD(G) standard is comprised of six elements: head of nation or corporate body, dates of creation, original name, title proper, language of a document, and identifier. Each of these elements is described in detail within the standard, providing a clear and concise understanding of what information should be recorded and how it should be formatted.

ISAD(G) aims to provide a consistent and structured approach to describing archival materials. This consistency allows for easier cataloging, retrieval, and use of the materials. The updated 2000 version of the standard incorporates new features, such as the inclusion of online identifiers, and several editorial improvements. It was revised in conjunction with the other ICA descriptive standards (ISDF, ISAAR) to provide a more cohesive and comprehensive framework for document understanding and access. Today, ISAD(G) remains a widely recognized and respected standard in the field of archival description and access, and it continues to evolve to reflect the changing demands of digital resources and online repository management.
