The IS-6 was a Soviet heavy tank prototype developed in the postwar period as part of the Iosif Stalin (IS) tank family. It was conceived to improve upon the IS-2 by offering greater protection and firepower on a modernized chassis.

Development and design

The IS-6 emerged in the mid- to late 1940s as a continuation of IS-2 technology, featuring a redesigned hull and a new turret intended to provide stronger frontal armor and better overall survivability against contemporary anti-tank weapons. The main armament was a 122 mm gun, paired with a turret and gun mantlet designed to enhance accuracy and reliability.
