IPcímét

IPcímét is a Hungarian term that translates to "IP address" in English. It refers to a unique numerical label assigned to each device connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication. This address serves two main functions: host or network interface identification and location addressing. An IP address allows a network to distinguish between different devices, much like a street address distinguishes between different houses.

There are two main versions of IP addresses in use: IPv4 and IPv6. IPv4 addresses are the most common and are typically represented as four sets of numbers separated by dots, such as 192.168.1.1. Each number in an IPv4 address ranges from 0 to 255. IPv6 addresses are a newer standard designed to address the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses. They are longer and represented as eight groups of hexadecimal digits separated by colons, for example, 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334.

IPcímét can be either public or private. Public IP addresses are assigned by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and are globally unique, allowing devices to be reached from the internet. Private IP addresses are used within local networks, such as home or office networks, and are not routable on the public internet. Network Address Translation (NAT) is often used to allow multiple devices with private IP addresses to share a single public IP address.
