The marking consists of two digits, each representing a different type of protection.

The first digit in the IP6X classification is '6'. This '6' signifies the highest level of protection against solid objects. It means the enclosure is completely dust-tight. No dust can enter the enclosure, regardless of the duration of exposure or the presence of dust particles. This level is often achieved through a sealed enclosure and rigorous testing.

The second digit in the IP6X classification is 'X'. In the IP marking system, 'X' is used as a placeholder when one of the protection levels is not specified or when the protection against that particular element is not relevant for the product's intended use. For example, if a product is not intended to be exposed to water or requires no specific water protection rating, the second digit might be replaced by 'X'. Therefore, IP6X indicates complete dust protection but does not specify the level of water resistance. To know the water protection, one would need to look at the full IP rating, such as IP67 or IP68.
