INSsüsteemid, or Integrated Navigation Systems, are advanced platforms that combine data from multiple navigation sensors to provide a more accurate, reliable, and comprehensive position, velocity, and attitude solution. These systems are crucial in applications where precise navigation is paramount, such as aerospace, maritime operations, and land-based vehicles. The core principle of an INSsüsteem is sensor fusion, where data from inertial sensors like accelerometers and gyroscopes are integrated with external navigation aids.

Common external sensors integrated into INSsüsteemid include Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) receivers (like GPS, GLONASS, Galileo), Doppler Velocity Logs (DVLs) for maritime vessels, and odometers for land vehicles. The inertial measurement unit (IMU) within the INS provides high-frequency measurements of acceleration and angular velocity, which are then integrated over time to estimate changes in position and orientation. However, inertial sensors are prone to drift over time due to accumulated errors.

This is where sensor fusion becomes critical. By combining the high-frequency, short-term accuracy of the IMU with the long-term absolute accuracy of external sensors like GNSS, the INSsüsteem can overcome the limitations of individual sensors. For instance, GNSS provides absolute position but can be susceptible to signal blockage or multipath errors. The INS, in turn, can bridge these gaps with its continuous inertial measurements. Advanced algorithms, such as Kalman filters, are typically employed to optimally weigh the data from different sensors and produce a unified navigation solution. This redundancy and fusion enhance the robustness and integrity of the navigation system.
