IL1Rassociated
IL1Rassociated is a protein that functions as a decoy receptor for interleukin-1 (IL-1), a family of pro-inflammatory cytokines. It is a member of the interleukin-1 receptor family and shares structural similarities with IL-1 receptors, but it lacks the intracellular signaling domain. This characteristic allows IL1Rassociated to bind IL-1 with high affinity but prevents it from initiating a signaling cascade. Instead, it acts as a competitive inhibitor, binding to IL-1 and preventing it from engaging with its natural receptors, thereby reducing IL-1's pro-inflammatory effects. IL1Rassociated is expressed in various tissues and plays a role in regulating inflammation and immune responses. Its expression can be modulated by various factors, including cytokines, hormones, and environmental stimuli. The IL1Rassociated gene is located on chromosome 19 in humans. Mutations in the IL1Rassociated gene have been associated with certain inflammatory disorders, suggesting its importance in maintaining immune homeostasis.
