IHEprofiilit

IHEprofiilit, or IHE Profiles, are a set of technical frameworks developed by Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) to promote interoperability between healthcare information systems. IHE is an international initiative that addresses specific clinical needs and workflows within healthcare organizations. It achieves this by defining how existing healthcare standards, such as DICOM and HL7, should be used in conjunction to achieve specific healthcare tasks.

These profiles specify actor behavior and message exchanges for particular healthcare use cases. For example, an IHE profile might define how a radiology information system (RIS) and a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) should communicate to manage and retrieve medical images. By adhering to these profiles, vendors can develop systems that are more likely to integrate seamlessly with other IHE-compliant systems, regardless of the manufacturer.

The development of IHE profiles involves healthcare professionals, vendors, and standards development organizations. They are organized into different domains, such as Radiology, Cardiology, Laboratory, and Patient Care Coordination. Each domain addresses unique interoperability challenges within its respective area.
