IECstandarden

IECstandarden denotes the international standards published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The IEC is a global standards organization that develops and publishes specifications for electrical, electronic and related technologies to promote safety, performance and interoperability. The commission was established in 1906 and is headquartered in Paris, with more than 170 member bodies representing national interests around the world.

Standards are developed by technical committees (TCs) and subcommittees made up of experts from national committees and industry. The process is consensus-based and includes drafts, public consultation, and formal ballots by member bodies. When approved, the document is published as an IEC International Standard. Many IEC standards are developed in collaboration with ISO, and some are designated as ISO/IEC standards.

IECstandarden encompasses a broad range of fields, including electrical safety of equipment, electrical installations, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility), energy efficiency, and IT equipment safety. Notable areas include IEC 60364 on electrical installations, IEC 60601 family for medical electrical equipment, and IEC 61000 series on EMC; newer safety frameworks are reflected in IEC 62368-1 for information technology and audio/visual equipment.

National authorities and industries commonly adopt IECstandarden through national standards bodies (for example DIN, ANSI, BSI) to facilitate trade and ensure compatibility and safety. Compliance testing and certification schemes often reference IEC standards. The IEC also administers specialized programs such as IECEx for explosion protection and IECQ for quality assessment.
