ICCtype

ICCtype is a data format specification used for storing and exchanging color management information. It is part of the International Color Consortium (ICC) framework, which aims to ensure consistent color reproduction across different devices and applications. ICCtype profiles contain data that describes the color characteristics of a particular device or color space, such as a scanner, monitor, printer, or a standard color space like sRGB. This information allows software to convert colors from one device's color space to another, ensuring that the colors appear as intended.

The ICCtype profile typically includes metadata about the device, a color transformation matrix, and lookup tables. This data enables color management systems to perform accurate color conversions. For example, if an image is created on a calibrated monitor and then viewed on a different monitor with different color properties, an ICCtype profile associated with the image and the viewing monitor can be used to adjust the colors so they appear similar on both displays.
