Iças

Iças is a municipality located in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. It is situated on the right bank of the Amazon River, approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of Manaus, the state capital. The municipality's economy is largely based on fishing, agriculture, and small-scale commerce. The primary crops cultivated in the region include cassava, bananas, and various fruits.

The area that now comprises Iças was historically inhabited by indigenous peoples. The development of the region accelerated with the arrival of settlers and the establishment of rubber extraction activities in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The municipality was officially established in 1955.

Iças experiences a tropical rainforest climate, characterized by high temperatures and humidity throughout the year, with distinct wet and dry seasons. The local ecosystem is part of the vast Amazonian biome, featuring dense vegetation and a rich biodiversity. Transportation to and from Iças is primarily by river, with regular boat services connecting it to Manaus and other riverside communities. The municipality faces challenges common to many Amazonian towns, including infrastructure development and access to public services.
