Húgy

Húgy, also known as the urethra, is a tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body. It is part of the urinary system and plays a crucial role in the elimination of waste products from the body. The urethra is approximately 20-25 centimeters long in males and about 4 centimeters long in females. In males, the urethra also serves as the passageway for semen during ejaculation.

The urethra is lined with smooth muscle and is surrounded by a layer of tissue called the urethral sphincter, which helps to control the flow of urine. In males, the urethral sphincter is composed of two parts: the internal urethral sphincter, which is under involuntary control, and the external urethral sphincter, which is under voluntary control. In females, the urethral sphincter is a single, involuntary muscle.

The urethra can be affected by various conditions, including infections, stones, and strictures. Infections, such as urethritis, can cause symptoms like burning during urination, pain, and a strong, unpleasant odor. Stones, or urethral calculi, can cause pain, burning, and difficulty urinating. Strictures, which are narrowings of the urethra, can cause similar symptoms and may require surgical intervention.
