Høyderor

Høyderor, also known as the elevator, is a primary flight control surface on an aircraft. It is typically mounted on the trailing edge of the horizontal stabilizer, which is a wing-like structure at the tail of the aircraft. The primary function of the høyderor is to control the aircraft's pitch, which is the rotation around its lateral axis. This means it controls whether the nose of the aircraft points up or down.

When the pilot moves the control stick or yoke forward, the høyderor deflects downwards. This causes the tail of the aircraft to be pushed down, resulting in the nose pitching upwards. Conversely, when the pilot pulls back on the control stick or yoke, the høyderor deflects upwards, pushing the tail up and causing the nose to pitch downwards. This ability to control pitch is crucial for maneuvering the aircraft during takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, and landing.

The høyderor is a hinged surface and can move independently of the horizontal stabilizer itself. Its movement is controlled by the pilot through the aircraft's control system, which can be mechanical, hydraulic, or fly-by-wire. The size and shape of the høyderor vary significantly depending on the aircraft type and its intended performance characteristics. For example, high-performance aircraft may have larger or more complex høyderor designs to allow for greater agility.
