Høydeenergien

Høydeenergien, often translated as potential energy in English, refers to the energy stored within an object due to its position or configuration within a force field. This concept is fundamental in physics, particularly in classical mechanics. The most common form is gravitational potential energy, which is the energy an object possesses because of its height above a reference point in a gravitational field. The higher the object, the greater its gravitational potential energy.

Mathematically, for an object of mass 'm' at a height 'h' in a uniform gravitational field with acceleration due to gravity 'g', the gravitational potential energy (PE) is given by the formula PE = mgh. This energy can be converted into kinetic energy when the object is allowed to fall, as its motion increases.
