Höyrystäviä is a Finnish term that translates to "evaporating" or "vaporizing" in English. It refers to the process where a substance changes from a liquid or solid state into a gaseous state. This transformation is driven by the absorption of energy, typically in the form of heat, which increases the kinetic energy of the molecules within the substance. As the molecules gain sufficient energy, they overcome the intermolecular forces holding them together in the liquid or solid phase and escape into the surrounding environment as vapor.

The rate of evaporation is influenced by several factors, including temperature, surface area, humidity, and airflow. Higher temperatures lead to faster evaporation as more molecules possess the necessary energy to transition to the gaseous state. A larger surface area exposed to the air also increases the rate, as more molecules are in contact with the atmosphere.
