Hölderlins

Hölderlins is the plural form used in German to refer to people bearing the surname Hölderlin. The most prominent bearer is Friedrich Hölderlin (1770–1843), a German lyric poet whose work is a central link between German Classicism and early Romanticism. The surname Hölderlin originates in German toponymy and is most strongly associated with the poet due to his enduring literary influence.

Friedrich Hölderlin was born in Lauffen am Neckar and studied at the Tübinger Stift. His poetry combines classical allusion and intense natural imagery with spiritual longing, and he produced a substantial body of lyric verse and the prose work Hyperion.
