Hårdhedstestmetode refers to various standardized procedures used to determine the resistance of a material to localized plastic deformation. This resistance is often quantified as a hardness value. Different methods exist, each suited for specific materials and applications.

One common type is indentation hardness testing. In these tests, a known indenter of a specific shape (like a sphere, pyramid, or cone) is pressed into the material's surface with a defined force for a specified duration. The size or depth of the resulting indentation is then measured and converted into a hardness value. Examples include Brinell, Rockwell, and Vickers hardness tests. The Brinell test uses a hardened steel or tungsten carbide ball, while Rockwell uses a cone or ball and measures the depth of indentation. Vickers uses a diamond pyramid indenter and is suitable for a wide range of materials, including thin and hard ones.

Another category is scratch hardness testing. This method involves determining the relative resistance of a material to scratching. The Mohs scale is a well-known example, where minerals are ranked from 1 (talc) to 10 (diamond) based on their ability to scratch one another.

Shore hardness, often used for polymers and elastomers, is a dynamic indentation test that measures the depth of penetration of a spring-loaded indenter. The resulting hardness value is read directly from a dial. The choice of hårdhedstestmetode depends heavily on the material's properties, its intended use, and the required accuracy.
