Házasságkötés
Házasságkötés, often translated as marriage ceremony or wedding, is the formal union of two people in Hungary. It is a legal and often religious act that establishes a family relationship between the couple and their descendants. Hungarian law recognizes both civil and religious marriages. A civil ceremony is performed by a registrar in a designated office or at a location approved by the authorities. This is the legally binding part of the marriage. Couples intending to marry must first submit a formal application to the local registrar's office, providing necessary documentation such as birth certificates, identification, and proof of dissolution of previous marriages if applicable. After a waiting period, the civil ceremony takes place, during which the couple declares their intention to marry and exchanges vows or makes a solemn promise. Witnesses are required to be present. Religious ceremonies, while not legally binding on their own, are significant for many couples and often follow the civil ceremony. Various denominations have their own specific rituals and traditions for wedding services. In either case, házasságkötés signifies a commitment and the establishment of a legal partnership with specific rights and responsibilities.
