Hyväksyvyydet, often translated as "acceptances" or "allowances," is a Finnish term used in engineering and construction contexts. It refers to the permissible deviation from a specified dimension or tolerance in a manufactured part or construction element. These acceptances are crucial for ensuring that components will fit together and function as intended, even though no two manufactured items are perfectly identical.

When a design is created, engineers specify nominal dimensions and tolerances. Tolerances define the acceptable range of variation around these nominal dimensions. Hyväksyvyydet are the actual measured values of a component that fall within these specified tolerance limits. For instance, if a shaft is designed to have a diameter of 10 mm with a tolerance of +/- 0.1 mm, any actual diameter between 9.9 mm and 10.1 mm would be considered acceptable, or within the hyväksyvyydet.

The concept of hyväksyvyydet is fundamental to quality control and manufacturing processes. It allows for mass production by acknowledging that slight variations are unavoidable and that these variations do not compromise the overall functionality or safety of the product. Establishing appropriate hyväksyvyydet requires a balance between the desired precision and the economic feasibility of manufacturing.
