Hydroksokobalamiini

Hydroksokobalamiini is a form of vitamin B12. It is also known as vitamin B12a. Vitamin B12 is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system and for the formation of red blood cells. Hydroksokobalamiini is one of the two naturally occurring coenzyme forms of vitamin B12, the other being adenosylcobalamiini. It is also one of the two main forms used in vitamin supplements and medications, alongside syanokobalamiini.

In the body, hydroksokobalamiini can be converted into other active forms of vitamin B12, such as metylkobalamiini and adenosylkobalamiini, which are crucial for various metabolic processes. It plays a role in DNA synthesis and fatty acid metabolism. Deficiency in vitamin B12 can lead to megaloblastic anemia and neurological problems. Hydroksokobalamiini is often used intravenously to treat vitamin B12 deficiency, particularly in cases of malabsorption or when rapid replenishment is needed. It is also sometimes used as an antidote for cyanide poisoning due to its ability to bind cyanide ions. The absorption of hydroksokobalamiini from the gastrointestinal tract is dependent on intrinsic factor, a protein produced in the stomach.
