Hydrocarbonates
Hydrocarbonates, also known as alkylcarbonates, are a class of organic compounds derived from carbonic acid where two alkoxy groups are attached to a carbonyl group. The general formula for a hydrocarbonate is R-O-CO-O-R', where R and R' are alkyl or aryl groups. When R and R' are the same, the compound is a symmetric dialkyl carbonate, such as dimethyl carbonate or diethyl carbonate. If R and R' are different, it is an asymmetric dialkyl carbonate.
