The matrix of hyalínbrjósks is rich in collagen type II fibers, which are fine and evenly distributed, contributing to its strength and flexibility. It also contains chondrocytes, the cells responsible for producing and maintaining the cartilage matrix, residing within lacunae, small cavities in the matrix. Hyalínbrjósks lacks a perichondrium, a fibrous layer of connective tissue, except in certain areas like articular surfaces.
