It is used as an adjuvant to increase the absorption and dispersion of locally administered drugs, such as local anesthetics and contrast agents for imaging. It is also employed in ophthalmology to enhance the penetration of topical medications and in plastic surgery to reduce edema. Furthermore, hyaluronidase is being investigated for its potential in treating certain fibrotic conditions and as a therapeutic agent for osteoarthritis. The enzymatic activity of hyaluronidase is pH-dependent and influenced by various activators and inhibitors.
