Huvudråvara

Huvudråvara is a Swedish term used in economics and industry to denote the primary raw material or most important resource for a production process, sector, or national economy. The concept highlights primacy: although many inputs may be used, the huvudråvara is the input whose supply, price, and availability most strongly influence planning and risk management.

Etymology and scope: The word is a compound of huvud (main, principal) and råvara (raw material). It is used to identify the keystone resource in a supply chain or economic activity. The term differs from råvara, which simply means any raw material; huvudråvara signals central importance.

Applications and implications: In manufacturing and procurement, identifying the huvudråvara helps set priorities for sourcing and inventory.
