Hushållsgas, also known as domestic gas or household gas, refers to gaseous fuels used for domestic purposes. Historically, this term was most commonly associated with coal gas, a manufactured fuel produced by the destructive distillation of coal in the absence of air. This gas was primarily composed of hydrogen, methane, carbon monoxide, and various other hydrocarbons. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, town gasworks supplied coal gas to urban households for lighting, cooking, and heating.
