Hoylake

Hoylake is a seaside town on the western coast of the Wirral Peninsula, in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, Merseyside, England. It lies to the northwest of Liverpool and forms part of the Wirral coast, featuring a long sandy beach and a promenade that runs along the shoreline. The town’s coastal setting and golf links have long been central to its identity.

Historically a fishing village, Hoylake developed as a seaside resort in the 19th century with the arrival of rail transport and growing tourism. The Royal Liverpool Golf Club, established in the 19th century in Hoylake, is one of Britain’s oldest golf clubs, and it hosted The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, in 2006 and 2014.

Hoylake is administered as part of the Wirral borough in Merseyside. It was historically part of Cheshire, with the area becoming part of the metropolitan county of Merseyside in 1974. The town is served by Hoylake railway station on the Wirral Line, providing regular services to Liverpool and West Kirby, as well as local bus services.

Education in Hoylake is provided by local primary schools, with secondary schooling available in nearby areas. Health services are delivered through the NHS in the Merseyside region. The town maintains a coastal heritage linked to tourism and sport, particularly golf, and continues to be identified with its promenade, beaches, and links to major golfing events.
