Horticulturában is a term that refers to the practice of gardening, particularly with a focus on the cultivation of plants for food, medicinal purposes, or for aesthetic pleasure. The term itself originates from the Latin words "hortus" (garden) and "cultura" (cultivation).

The scope of horticulturában can be quite broad, including olericulture, which deals with the cultivation of vegetables; pomology, the science of fruit cultivation; and viticulture, the cultivation of grapevines. It also extends to the growing of ornamental plants, such as flowers, shrubs, and trees, for landscape design and personal enjoyment.

Effective horticulturában involves understanding plant biology, soil science, pest and disease management, and water conservation techniques. Gardeners utilize various tools and methods, from simple hand tools to sophisticated irrigation systems and greenhouses.
