Hordalékos

Hordalékos is a Hungarian adjective used to describe materials, soils, or geological formations that are dominantly composed of sedimentary material deposited by natural agents. The word stems from hordalék, meaning sediment or detritus left by transport, with the suffix -os forming an adjective.

In geology and soil science, hordalékos descriptors indicate that the material consists largely of detritus transported and deposited by rivers, wind, or ice, as opposed to primary igneous or metamorphic components. Hordalékos sediments can include sand, silt, clay, and gravel and often exhibit sedimentary textures such as stratification and sorting.

Common usages include hordalékos üledék (detrital sediment) and hordalékos talaj (soils dominated by alluvial, eolian, or glacial deposits). The term is used in geological maps, soil descriptions, and hydrological reports to distinguish materials of depositional origin from crystalline or volcanic rocks.
