Homotsygoottisuus

Homotsygoottisuus refers to a genetic state where an individual possesses two identical alleles for a particular gene. Alleles are different versions of the same gene, and they are inherited from each parent. When an organism is homozygous for a gene, it means that both copies of that gene, one from the mother and one from the father, are the same. For example, if a gene controls eye color and has alleles for blue (b) and brown (B), an individual with homotsygoottisuus for brown eyes would have the genotype BB, and an individual with homotsygoottisuus for blue eyes would have the genotype bb.

This contrasts with heterozygosity, where an individual has two different alleles for a gene (e.g., Bb). The expression of traits can be influenced by homotsygoottisuus. If the trait is determined by a dominant allele, then having two copies of that dominant allele (homozygous dominant) will result in the expression of that dominant trait.
