Homotopischen

Homotopischen is a term derived from the Greek words "homotopos," meaning "same place," and "homotopia," referring to a change in position or form. In mathematics, particularly in the field of algebraic topology, homotopischen refers to a continuous deformation of one function or space into another. This concept is fundamental in understanding the properties of topological spaces and their mappings.

A homotopy between two continuous functions f and g from a topological space X to another space Y is a continuous function H: X × [0,1] → Y such that H(x,0) = f(x) and H(x,1) = g(x) for all x in X. The function H can be thought of as a continuous "morphing" of f into g. Homotopies are used to study the equivalence of functions and spaces, where two functions or spaces are considered equivalent if one can be continuously deformed into the other.

In the context of spaces, two spaces X and Y are said to be homotopy equivalent if there exist continuous functions f: X → Y and g: Y → X such that the compositions gf and fg are homotopic to the identity functions on X and Y, respectively. This equivalence relation is weaker than homeomorphism but captures many essential topological properties.
