Homeosis
Homeosis is a biological term used to describe a type of mutation that results in the transformation of one body part into another. This phenomenon is most famously observed in fruit flies, where specific genes, known as homeotic genes, control the development of body segments. If a homeotic gene is mutated, it can cause a segment to develop the characteristics of a different segment, leading to striking changes such as legs growing where antennae should be.
