Hofbräu, short for Staatliches Hofbräuhaus zu München, is a historic brewery and beer hall brand based in Munich, Germany. The brewery originated as the Royal Court Brewery (Königlich Bayerische Hofbräu) established in 1589 by Duke Wilhelm V to supply beer to the Bavarian court. Over time the facility expanded, and the Hofbräuhaus am Platzl became a public beer hall and restaurant, helping to popularize the Hofbräu name beyond the court.
