Hofbräuhaus

The Hofbräuhaus is a historic beer hall in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is part of the Hofbräu brewery and one of the best-known beer halls in the world. Located on Platzl near the old town, it features a yellow façade, three stories, long wooden tables, and traditional Bavarian music.

The Hofbräuhaus traces its origins to 1589 when Duke Wilhelm V established the Hofbräu, the royal court brewery. It supplied beer to the Bavarian court and, later, opened to the public. The hall became a social center in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building sustained damage in World War II and was rebuilt in the postwar era.

The hall serves beers brewed by Hofbräu, including Hofbräu Original and a Hefeweizen, among others, and offers Bavarian dishes such as pretzels, sausages, and roasted pork. It hosts traditional beer-tent ambiance with live music and seasonal celebrations, notably during Oktoberfest.

Today, Hofbräuhaus remains a flagship venue of Munich’s brewing heritage and a symbol of Bavarian culture. The Hofbräu brand operates internationally, with venues around the world, while the Munich site continues as its historic flagship.
