Hobuse

Hobuse is the genitive singular form of the Estonian noun hobune, meaning horse. It marks possession or a close relational modifier and is commonly used in noun-noun compounds and possessive constructions, for example hobuse kasukas (the horse’s coat) or hobuse omanik (the owner of the horse). The word hobune belongs to common nouns and is spelled with standard Estonian orthography.

Morphology and usage: Estonian nouns decline for case and number. The basic forms of hobune include nominative singular hobune, genitive singular hobuse, and partitive singular hobust. In the plural, common forms are nominative hobused, genitive hobuste, and partitive hobuseid. Hobuse appears in compounds and possessive phrases where the first noun denotes ownership or association with the second noun.

Numeral usage: In Estonian, the form following cardinal numerals is typically the partitive, so phrases such as kaks hobust or kümme hobust are standard for “two horses” and “ten horses.” The genitive form hobuse is not used after numerals in these constructions.
