Hingamese is a constructed language designed for cross-cultural communication and for use in fiction set in the Hingam region. It emphasizes regular grammar, a phonetic spelling, and a vocabulary drawn from several language families to be approachable for learners with Indo-European backgrounds. Hingamese has no official status and is primarily used by online communities, authors, and hobbyists.

Origins and development:

Hingamese was created in the late 20th century by the Hingam Language Collective, a group of linguists and writers. The project drew on Hindi, English, and Malay influences, aiming for a simple, regular structure that could be learned quickly while remaining expressive for storytelling.

Phonology:

Hingamese has five vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and a moderate set of consonants including p, t, k, m, n, s, r, l, h. It avoids tone and complex consonant clusters, and stress typically falls on the penultimate syllable. The system favors clear, pronunciation-by-spelling rules.
