Hiekkasäiliöissä

Hiekkasäiliöissä, meaning sand filters in Finnish, are a common type of water filtration system. They are widely used in swimming pools, industrial processes, and drinking water treatment. The primary component of a hiekkasäiliö is a tank filled with a bed of sand. Water is pumped through this sand bed, where impurities and particles are trapped. The size and type of sand used can vary depending on the specific application and the desired level of filtration.

The filtration process in a hiekkasäiliö relies on the physical trapping of debris. As water flows down through the sand, larger particles are caught in the upper layers, while smaller particles penetrate deeper. Over time, the sand bed becomes clogged with filtered material, reducing the flow rate and filtration efficiency. To restore the filter's performance, a process called backwashing is employed.

Backwashing involves reversing the flow of water through the sand bed. This turbulent flow dislodges the trapped debris and flushes it out of the system, typically to a drain or waste line. After backwashing, the filter is ready to resume its normal operation. Regular backwashing is crucial for maintaining the effectiveness and longevity of hiekkasäiliöissä.
