Hidrogénoxigén

Hidrogénoxigén, also known as hydrogen peroxide, is a chemical compound with the formula H₂O₂. It is a pale blue liquid, slightly more viscous than water, which appears colorless in dilute solutions. Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent and is used in various applications, including bleaching, disinfection, and as a propellant.

The molecule consists of a hydrogen-oxygen single bond and an oxygen-oxygen single bond. It is weakly acidic and can decompose exothermically to oxygen and water. The rate of decomposition can be influenced by factors such as temperature, pH, and the presence of catalysts.

Industrially, hydrogen peroxide is produced through several methods, with the anthraquinone process being the most common. This process involves the catalytic hydrogenation of an anthraquinone derivative, followed by oxidation with air.

In its pure form, hydrogen peroxide is unstable and can be hazardous. However, in dilute aqueous solutions, it is much safer and widely used. Common applications include its use as a disinfectant for wounds and surfaces, as a bleaching agent for paper and textiles, and as an oxidizer in various chemical synthesis processes. It is also used in some rocket propellants and as a component in some cleaning products.
