Hestarnir

Hestarnir is a term of Icelandic origin that translates to "the horses." It is most commonly used in the context of Icelandic horses, a distinct breed known for its unique gaits and hardy nature. These horses are native to Iceland and have been bred there for over a thousand years, developing specific traits due to their isolation. The breed is characterized by its relatively small size, strong build, and a friendly temperament. A defining feature of the Icelandic horse is its five gaits: the walk, trot, canter, and two unique gaits known as the tölt and the flying pace. The tölt is a four-beat lateral gait that is exceptionally smooth and comfortable for the rider. The flying pace is a fast, two-beat lateral gait. Hestarnir are popular not only in Iceland but also internationally for riding, showing, and as working animals.
