Physicians specializing in this field, known as hematologist-oncologists, diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions affecting blood cells, bone marrow, and lymph nodes, as well as various types of cancer. This dual focus allows for comprehensive management of diseases that often overlap, such as leukemias, lymphomas, and multiple myeloma, which originate in the blood-forming tissues.

The scope of hematológiaonkológia encompasses both benign and malignant hematological conditions. Benign conditions include anemias, clotting disorders like hemophilia and thrombosis, and disorders of white blood cells. Malignant conditions include blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, as well as solid tumors.
