Helikaons
Helikaons are a genus of large, extinct flightless birds that lived during the Pliocene epoch, approximately 5.3 to 2.6 million years ago. These birds are primarily known from fossil remains discovered in what is now South America. The most prominent species, Helikaon major, was a substantial creature, estimated to have stood around 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) tall and weighed upwards of 250 kilograms (550 pounds). Their robust build and powerful legs suggest they were adapted for terrestrial locomotion, likely running at high speeds to evade predators or pursue prey.
