The Landspítali University Hospital in Reykjavík is the largest and most comprehensive hospital in the country. Mental health services are also an integral part of the system, with a focus on accessibility and integration with general healthcare.

The Ministry of Health oversees the policy and regulation of the healthcare system, while the Directorate of Health is responsible for its implementation and operation. Efforts are continuously made to improve efficiency, quality, and patient outcomes within the system, often involving technological advancements and evidence-based practices.
