Heightvariant
Heightvariant is a term used in the field of genetics to describe a genetic variant that affects an individual's height. These variants are typically located on chromosomes 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 11, 12, 15, and 17, and are known to influence height by affecting the growth plate, a region in the bones where growth occurs. Heightvariants can be either gain-of-function or loss-of-function mutations. Gain-of-function variants often lead to increased height, while loss-of-function variants typically result in decreased height. The most well-known heightvariant is the FTO gene, which is associated with a significant portion of the variation in human height. Other notable heightvariants include the SH3GL2 and GNAS genes. Heightvariants are studied in the context of human genetics and evolutionary biology to understand the genetic basis of human height and its variation across populations.
